New Dementia test

A new test for dementia, used by the pharmacy industry in drug trials to detect cognitive change in participants, has been launched as a tool to detect subtle changes that could signify early stage dementia.

Melbourne-based Cogstate’s computerised test, involving a deck of playing cards, was launched in partnership with Merck as ‘Cognigram’.

The results of a study using the tool, published in BMC Psychology, correlated well with measures of disease classification and “are useful in identifying memory impairment related to mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease.”
